Topic: Coopetition Strategy and Sustainable Value Creation: Towards a new Dynamic Interorganizational Relations – A Case Study from the Chinese Taxi Industry

Abstract: Over the past 20 years research in strategic management has traditionally focused on interorganizational relations (e.g. strategic alliances, joint ventures, and cooperative research arrangements). The interorganizational relations (IORs) approaches have drawn considerable attention with both researchers and practitioners in various fields. By identifying and focusing on the inter-relations between organizations, scholars highlighted several issues such as the motivation for forming such relations, the selection of partners, alliance management and performance implications. This stream of research has marked the transition from the SCP (Structure-Conduct-Performance) paradigm to the cooperative perspective providing a multi-dimensional framework for understanding the competitive dynamics within an industry. Lately, the restless rapid of environmental change and firm’s strategic decisions and actions led to develop a more accurate picture of the dynamic of the IORs. Given these challenges, the need of an integrated strategic approach emphasizing the interplay of competition and cooperation has resurged as a key issues in in the current research agendas. As a result, between the competitive paradigm and the cooperative paradigm an emerging literature has begun to acknowledge that competition and cooperation often coexist and simultaneously also known as “coopetition”. This contribution aims to extant knowledge by highlighting the study of coopetiton strategy as a new hybrid perspective between competition and cooperation. The empirical part is based on a qualitative case study of a successful coopetitive relationship between two of China’s leading taxi companies and their online payment partners. The findings of the study contribute to our existing knowledge of why and how strategic actions undertaken under coopetitive conditions may enhance sustainable value creation.

Abstract: Finance, transport and energy market of the North East Asia has a great potential for all participants of the regional integration, especially for the major parties - China and Russia. Meanwhile, features of national policy, strategy and tactics of the government are of significant influence on the relationship between the two countries. In general, the analysis shows that the real intentions and aims of Russia and China concerning use of economic mechanisms in current and pre-planned programs of bilateral and multilateral cooperation are indistinct and disputable. Numerous questions related to the development of the economic model in North East Asia in the context of Russian and Chinese joint projects and contracts on East Economic Forum (EEF), APEC and other agreements on regional and sub regional levels are considered. A few suggestions to problems regarding the creation of the energy security structure by Russia and China in the Russian Far East made. The paper ends with statements on the possible application of the efficient strategic approaches of using the Russian Far East resource potential for the harmonic economic development of North East Asia.
